Q: What volume of water does each packet absorb?

Silica gel beads can absorb visible liquid, however, their main purpose is to absorb moisture in the air that you cannot see in an air-tight sealed space. The beads can reduce the relative humidity level of a sealed space to keep your stored items dry. We usually recommend our customers to wipe any visible water or liquid and then use the beads. The beads have to be in direct contact with water to absorb water and also sudden exposure to high humidity from water may cause beads to crack, pop, and produce heat. In general, 1 oz of silica gel can absorb 3 gram of water vapor at 20% relative humidity and 6 gram of water vapor at 40% relative humidity. 1 oz is 28 gram. For easy calculation, 28 gram is rounded up to 30 gram. 500 gram packet can absorb 50 gram of water vapor at 20% relative humidity and 100 gram of water vapor at 40% relative humidity. Thank you.

Q: If I want to recharge in an oven, what temperature should I use?

Our recommendation for reactivation via oven is: Bake packets for 0.5 - 2 hours at 200 - 250F. Please place the packets in a single layer. Use regular bake and not convection bake. After an hour, please check for the color of the beads. If the green beads are back to orange beads, you can stop. If not, you can bake another half an hour and check. Thank you.
